About The Goody Girls Cooking Team

The Goody Girls Team was founded in 1978. Originally we were a chili cook-off team but after a few years that changed and we became an all around BBQ Team.

The team started out with 11 members - all women, and the original sponsor was General Oil Distributing, Inc.  Hence the team was named The Goody Girls.  Actually, at that time the team name was spelled The GODI Girls.  We like to joke that we didn't know how to spell at that point in our history, but somewhere along the way we did learn how to spell.

The founding team consisted of:

Shirleen Baker

Marilyn Blair

Sherrie Davis

Georgia Dunn

"D" Louvier

Jo Ann O'Rourke

Brenda Parish

Charlotte Russell

Susie Smith

Carol Stephenson

Karen "Ducky" Walker

The first Cook-Off the team participated in was the Humble Lions Club Chili Cook-Off. That was the start of what has since become a long-standing tradition, and that is winning! Of course, we don’t ALWAYS win, but we certainly have taken home our fair share of trophies.  Currently the team competes annually at The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo’s World Championship BBQ Cook-Off.  In the last twelve years we have managed to consistently be in the top ten of the final rankings at the HLS&R World Championship BBQ Cook-Off.  Below is a list of our latest rankings at that Cook-Off:

1996 - 9th Place Brisket

1997 - HLS&R Championship Brisket

1998 - 9th Place Brisket

2000 - 5th Place Brisket

2001 - HLS&R 2nd Runner-up Brisket

In 2002 the World BBQ Association invited the Goody Girls to compete at the Gold Star International Cook-off in Switzerland and we had the 1st place finish in Chicken.

In 2004 we were invited to the Jack Daniels Cookoff in Lynchburg, Tennessee.  We didn't win anything there but we met & became buddies with Guy Fieri before he became famous.  He visitied us back in Houston for the next 2 years.

Don't get us wrong though, as much as we like turning out a good BBQ we are also very committed to being involved in our local community.  In 1998 we became a 501(c)(3) charitable and educational organization under the Internal Revenue Code and made it our mission to give back to the community.  To find out more check out our Charitable Activities Page.
